Release 0.4 – The Finale

This is it, the last blog I write for this course. If you’ll recall, the last couple of weeks I have been trying to implement a hotkey plugin for FreeTube. The hotkeys themselves were not the main reason for using the plugin though. The reason for using the plugin was because it advertised that it had a way around the auto focus feature of videojs. At the end of last week I finished the blog by posting a PR for review.

The reason I wanted to get the PR in early was because I had a feeling it would be a long review process. At the time I am writing this it has been 8 days since I submitted the PR and there has been no activity on the PR. PrestonN, the sole merger, has been active. I see him making commits and addressing other PR’s but has yet to make it to mine.

This is the most PR’s I have seen pile up in FreeTube and when I look at the repos commit history I can see that PrestonN has been doing a lot of work. I think the reason he has not got around to mine yet is that my issue affects a lot of the usability of the application. As I predicted, this will take a long time to review so I’m guessing PrestonN is just waiting until he has some more time to properly look at it and get caught up with the other PR’s in the repo.

As I was watching the repo for an update I noticed a few familiar names pop up in the PR’s. Two of my class mates have now made a contribution to FreeTube as well, amazing!

This was not the grand finale I was hoping for but the issue is out of my control. This would be my fourth contribution to FreeTube and one that will have a large impact, I want to see this through to the end. Even though the course is over I plan on watching this PR over the holidays. Maybe I’ll write a blog about it when it gets done to give you and update.

I’m also thinking about picking up this issue over the holidays that aims to fine tune a feature that I added in a previous PR. I should also fix up my blog space to better showcase my work since coop is coming up. I’ll be sure to keep you all posted in Telescope!
